Another stellar entry, brokensoldier. I was thrilled when I clicked on my link and found you had posted.
I don't know much about the SCOTUS but was Scalia so obviously biased in the earlier part of his career? Could it be he is just losing his marbles, and if so, is there a procedure to remove him from his seat because of it?
It scares me to think this man had influence on the young minds in the audience that day (and anywhere else he might spout this garbage). If he weren't a justice on the Supreme Court, I would have no problem permitting him to speak to students. They have to hear nonsense once in a while just to keep their minds sharp. With his position on the court, though, I fear some students will think this is rational and be unduly influenced by his bigotry.

lesherb,

Thanks for your thoughts! I am well, though I have been a little overwhelmed lately dealing with a lot of different things. There will be a new post up in the next day, and I'll be getting back into the swing of posting regularly. I hope you'll leave me your thoughts on the new stuff when I post it. Take care and I'll see you around!

I keep peeking in to see if you've come back. I'd love to hear your take on healthcare reform and other current events. I hope your absence doesn't mean you are not well.

I couldn't agree with you more, Autumn. I think it should be standard disclosure - and not just to the bosses, this is Freedom of Information Act territory. At the very least, it could keep them away from the short-selling business.

Cramer is the worst now practicing, but any "analyst" in the media who recommends or discourages stocks without a full disclosure of their portfolio is being viciously unethical.

Don't miss Cramer on The Daily Show tonight (Thursday, March 12, 2009 11:00 PM EDT). He was on Martha Stewart's show this morning lamenting about how frightened he was to meet up with Jon Stewart! LOL

"Freedom to express your ideas does not automatically oblige major media outlets to sponsor and distribute them."
And therin lies the rub. I literally need a list - which I have done - to start to explain just how much psyops always has dominated our lives. I'm pretty much talking cradle to grave here - which is an untenable and shocking notion.
Bear with me. I didn't arrive at the conclusion that was the best description of our situation overnight, and I would encourage you to discover for yourself how plausible it really is - or not.
Here's a political theory which makes a background for such
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutocracy
I'm not going to loudly proclaim my fealty to any group. I've been let down too many times to volunteer that: which is an odd - likely ungrateful - thing for a fellow who has led a sheltered existence to say.
The startof what I've collected is in Overton Window on my Links page. Media control and education are other parts of the story. Either you find it worth looking for or you don't.
At the top right is a bbForum note at the Articles n Answers website - which is a bit of a relic. The Today's Thoughts forum has a single protected file contributed by a Steve G. ( you'll need to login : it's free. Bluebloggin has tried it, so a reference is available )
The basics involve how systemic dysfunction ensure veterans get screwed when it comes to reimbursement for personal damage they suffer in the service of their country.

I know it's tough to be optimistic after such a horrible 8 years, but not everything will make us look bad.

The thing is that some of us weren't entirely inactive; it's just that the media didn't cover it all the time. Or if they did, the coverage wasn't always fair to those who tried to stand up to the administration. How much coverage did the Inauguration protesters get? How much of the anti-war protest coverage addressed the legitimate arguments of their stand? How many of them even showed a single speech? The MSM just showed the big crowds, and the occasional weirdo on display (the point of the latter being, of course, that "all" protesters were just a bunch of freaks).

When we weren't being ridiculed or scorned, we were marginalized almost into silence, and we had to take our opportunities where we could get them. We did.

I think some of the blogs may (or could) survive as testament to how some of us refused to lie down and die. The story may be that the blogs became the new underground resistance. Thanks to the internet, people who might have done nothing in the past suddenly could be informed, organize and fundraise instantly, all over the world, 24/7/365. The Republicans might have had their permanent majority...

if it weren't for those pesky bloggers.

In 2004, it looked like liberals were down for the count. But it's like that old saying, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, and then--"

Well we haven't "won," but the momentum of the battle has definitely shifted a bit away from the conservatives. I don't know if we'll maintain it. I guess it's up to us to make it happen.

Indeed, JeffreyD - I share your optimism, and I also share in your excitement over the fact that this is the first time in a while I've been able to feel that way. I just hope that this administration measures up to the standards it has set for itself.
